The Economy and Personal Bankruptcy
The Dow Jones industrial average hit 10,000 points yesterday; a first since March 1999. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs is reporting $3.2 billion in third-quarter profits. According to this article, Goldman will likely,
set almost half that sum aside to compensate its workers. Through the first nine months of 2009, the firm socked away $16.7 billion, enough to pay the average Goldmanite $526,814.

National Depression Screening Day
Today is National Depression Screening Day. According to the LA Times,
People who wish to be screened for depression can do so Thursday, Oct. 8, at one of 1,000 sites nationwide or by completing an online questionnaire. The annual screening day is sponsored by major mental health organizations, including the National Institute of Mental Health.

American’s Well-Being and Happiness
According to a recent Gallop survey American’s well-being is as high as its ever been (note: they have only been collecting data 20 months) and has been rising incrementally since March, 2009. Take a look at the report, it has some nice graphs depicting well-being by monthly income and geographical area.
